Application Process

We are so glad you're interested in applying to Emerge Maine and running for office! Emerge Maine recruits, trains, and supports Democratic women to run for office - and win. Together, we will rise!
Here's some helpful information:
1) First things first, sign up for our email list at our website:
Please consider coming to our events and donating to support the work of Emerge Maine!
2) We open our applications in April of 2017 for our Class of 2018.
Classes begin in September of 2017 and run through March of 2018. For those six months, we meet once a month, around the state. Some weekends are two days while others are just one. When we open the applications, all the dates and locations will be available so you can make sure to mark your calendar.
3) The application is online and requires two letters of recommendation.
After we close applications in June, we will conduct interviews in person in Augusta in July. Applicants must be registered Democratic women, who are over the age of 18 and can or will meet the qualifications to run for elected office in Maine.
Emerge embraces diversity and encourages applications from all self-identified women regardless of age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, religious affiliation, sexual orientation or physical abilities.
Women who have a 3-5 plan to run for any elected office are our top priority. Some political experience, even volunteering on a campaign or lobbying for an issue you care about, is a big plus!
4) There is a cost involved in our program.
Our application fee is $35 and our tuition is $750. Scholarships are available, thanks to our generous donors, because we would never want finances to be a barrier. Our cost to train each woman who completes our program is $3500! We invest in you!
5) You have questions! We have answers.
If you are interested in speaking with someone over the phone or in person after applications open, please fill out this quick survey:
Someone will reach out in April to talk with you more about the program and answer your questions.
Thank you again for your interested in applying for Emerge Maine. I look forward to meeting you in the future and seeing your name on the ballot!
